Daily Dealing with FM

THE STEPS YOU WILL GO THROUGH IN 
LEARNING HOW TO DEAL WITH FM

 

1. Denial and isolation.   This is useful in a way for a while because it acts as a buffer against shock and gives your mind time to adjust.  But with FM you just make your illness worse by doing all the things you used to because your body can't handle it anymore.

 

2. Anger.   When the truth can no longer be denied people get mad.  Why me? Why is my life so screwed up right now?  During this stage we often lash out at loved ones and doctors.  Anger is a normal response to the loss of control over your body that you now have.

 

3. Bargaining.   In this stage people bargain with God.  Such as "If you only make me better I will do this for you."  This is also the stage in which people are most susceptible to medical quackery.

 

4. Depression.   When you start to really accept the illness you get depressed and grieve for the life you have left behind.  The life that has to be left behind to form a new one that works around your illness.

 

5. Acceptance.   You accept that you may not be able to control your life the way you used to and that you have a future.  It will just be a different one then the one you first planned on.  You work with your illness instead of against it.  You accept that you may be stuck with this painful illness but that it is not going to get the best of you.

 

Most of us after a while go between
stages 4 and 5 and that is normal.


Good Luck to you and remember you are not lazy if you cannot do things, it is the FM pain and fatigue and not your fault.  Listen to the voice that is telling you not to over do and don't try and be so brave, you are only hurting yourself.  You can get through this it just isn't fun
